American Idol winners: where are they now? PART 1

With Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina getting ready to battle it out for the title ofAmerican Idol winner 2011 next week, another hopeful will become an overnight success.
So, as another season of the hit talent show comes to an end, we thought we'd take a trip down memory lane and see what the American Idol alumni were up to now.
Who can forget the success that ensued for Kelly Clarkson who became the original American Idol when she won the first season of the show way back in 2002. Or what about AI's season three winner Fantasia Barrino? What is she up to and more importantly is she still singing?
Or have some winners had the sad misfortune to have a flash in the pan career, and are now singing in front of ten instead of tens of thousands of people...
Take a look and see where the American Idol winners are now...

Kelly Clarkson is the orginal American Idol winning the title in 2002. Since winning the star's album has debuted at number one in the billboard charts. The star is also a double platinum selling artist who has gone on to win 2 Grammy awards.

Ruben Studdard won the title in 2003 and had instant success which scored him a Grammy for 'Superstar'. Since then, the star has gone onto produce his fourth album (which was released last year) and star on Broadway and on TV (8 Simple Rules and Eve.)
Fantasia became the third person to be crowned winner of American Idol and to this day the star is still producing top ten hits. Despite having platinum selling success with her music, the star decided she wanted to act and played the part of Celie on Broadway's adaptation of 'The Color Purple'. In 2010 the star produced her own TV series, 'Fantasia for Real.' and has also had a movie made about her life and her journey to winning American Idol.
America crowned Carrie Underwood their fourth winner on the show in 2005. Since then she's become a multi-platinum selling artist, multiple Grammy winner, and a 3-time Academy of Country Music award winner.
Taylor Hicks became the winner of season five. Despite his strong and soulful voice, the star has had little commerical success since winning. Sadly Taylor was dropped from J Records in 2007 and he now plays Teen Angel in Broadway's Grease.
